What People are Saying

Our Zoom-based Sunday School class had been struggling with the moral and ethical implications of climate change for some time. When we stumbled onto the THIS! Is What We Did website, it seemed like an excellent fit with our desire to do something about it. Jim readily agreed to join us, even though it meant crossing two time zones early on a Sunday morning. His presentation was well-suited to our Zoom format. It engaged and challenged us to think more critically about how we could put our Christian principles to work toward making a financial impact and engaging in more effective climate conversations. Highly recommended!

—Dan Terpstra, Facilitator

Jim gave a wonderful talk to my high school’s environmental club about the importance of intersectionality when discussing the climate crisis! He was able to connect with tired students early on a Thursday morning while keeping his zoom presentation engaging and relevant. I would recommend his presentations to anyone looking to hear about how to combat the climate crisis!

—Rachel Minden, Environmental Club Activist
Saint Francis High School (Mountain View, CA)

Jim Thompson spoke to my “How to Make the World Better” monthly discussion group at Heritage Presbyterian Church. He was an outstanding speaker and his presentation style was captivating. He involved the group in discussion during his talk and led a lively Q&A session at the end. My people loved the topic and Jim’s presentation of it!

—Pat Plant

Jim Thompson has provided our Native American youth coaches with amazing educational workshops showing how we can leverage sport to help our young athletes traverse a rapidly changing world. Jim’s All-Of-Us-Together-Team model has transformed the way I think about healthy teams and our collective role in establishing them. Jim is the first leader I have seen using youth sport to address the critical realities of climate change.

—Joe Claunch, Ph.D., Puyallup Tribal Member
Executive Director, Zuni Youth Enrichment Project

Many people get paralyzed thinking about climate change. We get overwhelmed by the scale of it; thinking it’s too complicated to act. Jim simplifies it all to show it’s not overwhelming; it’s something we can address and he gives us very realistic and structured action points. His approach is just phenomenal.

—Chip Goldstein, President Coastside Jewish Community

My students always appreciate the opportunity to have Jim Thompson join our classes. Jim is passionate, interested in making genuine connections, and inspirational. He makes all of us feel that if we work together, we can make a better world. Youth sport can be a vessel to help kids have positive experiences with physical activity and develop massively important leadership skills to tackle the major issues of our day such as protecting our earth and reversing climate change. I learn from Jim and feel recharged every time I’m fortunate to spend time with him, and my students echo the same sentiments.

—Mary Fry, PhD, Sport and Exercise Psychology Director,
University of Kansas Sport and Exercise Psychology Lab

Jim was able to tie together the importance of youth sports coaching and climate change masterfully! My students enjoyed interactions with Jim during the presentation. Jim is passionate about all things youth sport and climate change. It was a privilege to have him as a guest speaker in my class!
